1. ENEL(实现电气化):
Infineum launches Energy Applications Unit to boost sustainability initiatives
Infineum, a joint venture between ExxonMobil and Shell and a global leader in the specialty chemicals industry based in the UK, has announced a significant restructuring aimed at enhancing its focus on sustainability. The company has created a new business unit, Energy Applications, to address the growing demand for innovative, sustainable solutions in emerging energy markets. This move is part of a larger transformation, dividing Infineum into two strategic business units: Sustainable Transportation and Energy Applications.
The new Energy Applications unit will focus on three key functions: Enabling Electrification (ENEL), Industry and Infrastructure (I&I), and New Business Development (NBD). These functions are designed to boost operational efficiency and streamline decision-making, positioning Infineum to expand into new markets and accelerate its decarbonisation and electrification strategies.
Bruce Royan, who has over 25 years of experience in commercial planning roles at Infineum, has been appointed executive vice president (EVP) of Energy Applications.
“Infineum’s decades of experience in developing high-performance fuels and lubricants additives for the transportation sector provides a robust foundation for creating innovative solutions for the energy applications market,”* said Royan. “The Energy Applications unit will benefit from synergies across the organisation’s deep understanding of fluid chemistry, material science, and performance optimisation as it moves to address the unique challenges posed by emerging energy technologies.
Infineum also recognises the critical role it plays in the Asia Pacific region, where sustainability transitions are rapidly underway. In July 2023, the company announced plans to collaborate with energy providers and site partners to expand solar farms, improve the renewable energy mix, and invest USD20 million annually in upgrading its manufacturing facilities across Asia and beyond.
John Hong, Asia Pacific Sales director and country head of Singapore, emphasised the importance of the region to Infineum’s growth.
“From emissions-reducing engine lubricants in India to our Infineum P5500 chemistry products in Singapore, Infineum is increasingly making an impact on every corner of the Asia Pacific region,” said Hong. “We are excited to expand our offerings into energy applications and look forward to fast-tracking new solutions as the region transitions towards sustainability.”
Focus areas of the Energy Applications Business Unit:
1. ENEL (Enabling Electrification):
ENEL is focused on supporting the global shift toward electrification, particularly in the electric vehicle (EV) market. With a focus on advanced fluids and axle gear oils, ENEL aims to meet the evolving needs of the automotive industry by offering high-quality, sustainable solutions.
2. Industry & Infrastructure (I&I):
This function will provide chemical solutions to improve the efficiency of conventional fossil fuels in industries where electrification and decarbonisation are progressing more slowly. I&I also supports the energy transition by introducing renewable fuels and providing solutions such as combustion improvers and emulsion stabilisers.
3. New Business Development (NBD):
NBD will retain its focus on innovation and developing sustainable growth opportunities, particularly in areas like battery development and electrification. The unit will focus on projects that align with Infineum’s long-term sustainability goals, including achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and reducing emission intensity by 50% by 2030.
This strategic shift reflects Infineum’s commitment to creating a sustainable future through innovative chemistry. By leveraging its technical expertise and market presence, Infineum is poised to play a key role in addressing the challenges of decarbonisation and sustainability across the globe.
